Mopping Temple floor
small price to pay for dinner
a teaching moment
The other day at the Chicago Buddhist Temple after the Ho-On-Ko memorial service the floors needed to be done. Myself and a friend, who is a tenured professor in Physics, grabbed the mops and mopped the floor without hesitation. Our mops worked in unison and the job was quickly done. My daughter was looking at me with wonder. I asked her “Why?” Her response was “Why are you mopping?” I told her that “the floor was not going to mop itself.” and “that I was happy to clean up, just like the people who cooked were happy to provide the food for us.” I hope that she remembers this lesson. 🙂
